Although media representations make him look like a middle-of-the-road moderate, Martin Luther King Jr. worked for fundamental change. He sought to build a new world, a “Beloved Community” based on respect and trust among people.
By discussing two of King’s best-known speeches – “I Have a Dream” and “Beyond Vietnam: A Time to Break Silence,” an anti-Vietnam War and pro-social justice speech – Bermanzohn will show how King sought to build a new society, free of discrimination, oppression, and exploitation.
