Poem: To Whom It May Concern

The best rejections
have room for explanation

so that when you wake
at three in the morning

you feel love and regret,
not shame and yearning,

and you know the connection
was real, just untenable,

and you both want to try again,
with someone else, sometime

fairly soon.
