On October 7, 2006, Anna Politkovskaya was shot dead in the elevator of her apartment building in Moscow. On the 10th anniversary of her death, The Guardian called her assassination "the murder that killed free media in Russia." Politkovskaya was a Russian journalist who covered the country's politics and the Second Chechen War. Her investigative work, which includes several published books, exposed corruption in the Russian government. Russian composer Alexander Bakshi and Hudson Valley puppeteer Amy Trompetter weave a timely and powerful puppet musical to commemorate Politkovskaya's life of bravery. The Bard College Conservatory of Music singers and musicians, along with undergraduate students, will perform "Requiem for Anna Politkovskaya" on May 18 at 7:30pm, May 19 and May 20 at 2pm and 7:30pm at the Fisher Center for Performing Arts at Bard College in Annandale-on-Hudson.
