Sparkling Amazons presents the pioneering contribution by women artists to the Abstract Expressionist movement and the significant role they played as bold innovators within the New York School during the 1940s and 50s. This show brings together for the first time since 1951 works by the 11 women artists who participated in the groundbreaking 9th St. show. The exhibition includes major paintings by Helen Frankenthaler, Grace Hartigan, Elaine de Kooning, Lee Krasner, and Joan Mitchell, as well as works by Perle Fine, Anne Ryan and recently discovered paintings and sculptures by Sonja Sekula, Day Schnabel, Marguerite Knoop and Jean Steubing.
