All summer long, Tanglewood has hosted events for the whole family with Summer Sundays and, of course, classical music performances. The renowned music center in the Berkshires, home of the Boston Symphony Orchestra (BSO), provides an exciting concert-going experience with its outdoor pavilions.

Tanglewood has a special weekend fast-approaching that you don’t want to miss (think: big celebrities!) The venue closes out the season with two huge performances—one traditional, one comical—during Labor Day weekend.

Wynton Marsalis Quintet | September 1

Internationally-recognized trumpeter, composer, bandleader, and educator Wynton Marsalis rounds up his quintet for a rare, small-ensemble performance at Tanglewood’s Koussevitzky Music Shed. The concert will celebrate this year’s New Orleans’ tricentennial and include a special guest—Wynton’s father, New Orleans-based modern jazz pianist and music educator Ellis Marsalis. The Ellis Marsalis Quintet will make an appearance onstage, led by the patriarch of the Marsalis family. This music kicks off at 7:30pm. Doors at 4:30pm.

Steve Martin and Martin Short | September 2

You’ve seen them on TV, in movies, and in comedy specials—now catch them live for a musical comedy show at Tanglewood’s Koussevitzky Music Shed. Famously funny actors Steve Martin and Martin Short, joined by the Grammy award-winning bluegrass band Steep Canyon Rangers, will have you laughing all afternoon. The performance, “An Evening You Will Forget For The Rest Of Your Life,” features the two men reflecting on their careers with a mix of musical numbers, stand-up comedy, and conversation. The show begins at 2:30pm. Doors at 12pm.
