Stephen Merritt Steps Out for Mass MoCA Concert

Last Updated: 08/29/2022 1:34 pm

Stephen Merritt

Today marks the second Hudson-oriented post this week, and once again it concerns a local musician who’s very active outside the town that was once the largest red light district in the Northeast but is now known for upscale restaurants and high-end antique dealers: Acclaimed singer-songwriter Stephen Merritt, a Hudsonian since 2012 who will perform at nearby Mass MoCA on November 21.

For the occasion, Merritt, the mastermind behind the Magnetic Fields (best known for the 1999 opus 69 Love Songs on Merge Records) and offshoots the Gothic Archies, Future Bible Heroes, and the 6ths, will deliver a rare minimalist concert in which he will be accompanied only by regular Magnetic Fields cellist Sam Deval.

Here, Merritt croons a solo version of “The Book of Love” in 2012:

Stephen Merritt will perform at Mass MoCA in North Adams, Massachusetts, on November 21 at 8pm. Tickets are $29 in advance, $35 day of show, and $44 preferred seating. For more information, call (413) 662-2111 or visit
