Tai Chi for Arthritis and Fall Prevention

Tai chi is a low-impact exercise that involves a series of movements, known as forms, performed in a slow, focused manner combined with controlled breathing. Research has shown tai chi is effective for arthritis and fall prevention as it improves mobility, balance and relaxation. The program is taught by physical therapists at Putnam Hospital Center certified through the Tai Chi for Health Institute. Tai chi is appropriate for adults with or without arthritis, rheumatic disease or related musculoskeletal conditions, as well as mild, moderate and severe joint involvement and back pain. Participants should be able to walk independently and follow instructions.
