The Clean Water Act at 50, with Clearwater Environmental Action Director, Manna Jo Greene and guests. An Act to amend the Federal Water Pollution Control Act, known as the Clean Water Act, was a landmark piece of environmental legislation, which went into effect Oct. 18, 1972, when the house overrode Richard Nixon’s veto. As we celebrate the 50th anniversary of the establishment of a framework for protecting the nations waterways, it’s clear that there is still much work to be done.
