The Subtle Body

The Subtle Body tells the story of early 18th century British doctor John Floyer and his wife, Charlotte, who travel to China to research Chinese medicine. In China, Floyer encounters Dr. Zhang, a doctor successfully performing the traditional Chinese medical practice of pulse-diagnosis. Meanwhile, his wife Charlotte confronts a new interpretation of the human heart as she falls in love with the Chinese translator, Wang Ming who is already married and who subsequently asks Charlotte to join his household as his second wife.
