Unison Labor and Sanctuary Parade and Festival

Unison Arts Center, Redwing Blackbird Theater, Engaging Lectures with Everyday Experts (ELEE), United University Professions (New Paltz chapter), the Center 4 Creative Education, the Hudson Valley LGBTQ Community Center, The Roost Youth Group, and others invite the community to come together to celebrate a very special Labor Day. This year, we will observe the indispensable connection between Labor and Sanctuary. Sojourner Truth found sanctuary from slavery with abolitionists in New Paltz. Today, thousands of undocumented workers in the Hudson Valley hope for sanctuary from exploitation and the threats of detention and deportation. Join us in commemorating our histories of labor and sanctuary—the horror of slavery and the hope of the Underground Railroad—and standing up today for the dignity of all, including undocumented workers.
