Vanaver Caravan’s: Back from India

During his recent trip in India, Bill Vanaver, the music director of The Vanaver Caravan Dance & Music Co. collected a number of local style paintings from all over India, ranging from the delicate deity, animal, and village scenes in Rajasthan, where figures are deliniated with a brush ending in a single squirrel hair, to “madhubani” from the state of Bihar, known for their playful configurations of figurative geometrical shapes, which style was even lauded by Picasso! There is also a traditional and archetypal style “Jagannath” painting from Odisha, which depicts the “Vishnu/Krishna triad.”
