When Yards Look Alike: Ecological Homogenization and Alternative Futures for Urban America
When: Wed., May 2, 5:30 p.m. 2018
Expansion of urban, suburban, and exurban land in the US over the past few decades has led to neighborhoods across the country appearing more similar to each other than the native ecosystems they replaced. Peter Groffman will discuss the effects of urban homogenization on biodiversity, soil and nutrient processing, microclimate, and hydrography. Groffman has worked at the Cary Institute, CUNY Science Advanced Science Research Center, and Brooklyn College, and has authored IPCC and NCA reports.
