'Who the F**K is That Guy' in Troy | Music | Hudson Valley | Chronogram Magazine
John Lydon and Michael Alago (right)
[inage-1] Odds are you’ve never heard the name Michael Alago. But if you’re even a casual music fan you’ve probably heard of at least some of the names he’s worked with over his many years in the record industry: Metallica, Cyndi Lauper, Nina Simone, White Zombie, John Lydon (aka Johnny Rotten), Tracy Chapman, the Misfits, Swans, the list goes on and on. Who the F**K is That Guy, the 2017 documentary that tells the story of Alago’s astonishing career, will get a special screening at Hudson Valley Community College followed by a Q&A with the subject himself on April 12.

An outspoken, unapologetically gay Brooklynite of Puerto Rican descent, Alago got his start in the early 1980s as the booking agent for New York nightclub the Ritz. By age 24 he was an A&R executive at Elektra Records, where he signed Metallica to their first major label deal. Still a presence on the New York scene, he’s currently focused on publishing books of original poetry and photography.
