Why Ice Storms Aren't Cool

Join the Cary Institute for a special lecture on ice storms by U.S. Forest Service scientist Dr. Lindsey Rustad. Ice storms are destructive, unpredictable, and may be on the rise in the northeastern U.S. due to climate change. Rustad will discuss how ice storms leave a legacy of impacts on forest ecosystems, altering everything from the composition of trees to water quality. Rustad led a "cool study" that was the first of its kind to simulate large ice storms in a New Hampshire forest. The important work was profiled in National Geographic.
