Leading Japanese choreographer Takao Kawaguchi is in the US touring a solo performance, About Kazuo Ohno, that blurs the boundaries of homage and interpretation, archival research and original performance. The piece is a shimmering and unstable “copy” of the ephemeral presence of a master. In this workshop, Kawaguchi opens up his creative process: after viewing archival footage of butoh master Kazuo Ohno, participants will sketch their images and create movements based on what they experienced.
