Thistle Wrap in indigo and cream by Liamolly

With Mother's Day right around the corner on May 8, the search is on to find a gift that tells the special mamas in your life that you're thankful they're always there for you. If you're stuck on what to gift your own mom, your kiddos' mama, or any of your other favorite motherly figures, we've rounded up seven Hudson Valley women artists and artisans whose beautiful, creative, and thoughtfully made wares will light up their day.

1. Mary MacGill, Germantown

Mary MacGill’s creative journey began at the age of 13, when tea with her mentor Kazuko Oshima—a ground-breaking jeweler who sold her crystal, stone, and wire pieces exclusively at Barneys—instilled her desire to become a jewelry designer. Inspired by Oshima’s work and her family home on the ocean on Block Island, Rhode Island, MacGill’s line of minimal jewelry features pearls and smooth semi-precious stones gracefully suspended on wire.

After her inclusion in the first Field + Supply inspired her to move upstate, she opened her studio on Main Street in Germantown in one half of a former dry goods store she shares with furniture maker Michael Robbins.

Featuring irregularly shaped pearls laced with thin hammered gold fill wire, MacGill’s Baroque Pearl collection is anything but your grandmother’s tidy strand of baubles—and feels all the more authentic for it. If your mama’s style tends toward the more colorful, the Amber Ring or Lapis Drop Necklace might be right up her alley.

Forest Fern Wrap by Liamolly

Named after founder Seema Sudan’s son Liam and daughter Molly, Liamolly is a family-designed and -made collection of modern jacquard knitted wraps featuring patterns inspired by the beauty of nature—from butterflies to ferns, animal prints, and more. The wraps are made of buttery soft Italian spun 100% Egyptian cotton designed to be easy to take care of. Each piece is designed, programmed, and knit in their studio (located in a former general store/post office) on a computerized knitting machine, then hand stitched and pre-washed to bring out the incredible hand-feel.

Superlative Beauty Powder from Cocorau features crushed pearls for a luminescent effect

Cocorau founder and native Austrian Constanze Zeller spent most of her career as a makeup artist in New York City. Traveling for assignments around the world, she became acquainted with the sustaining powers of raw nutrients and adaptogenic herbs, and founded Cocorau, a line of adaptogenic elixirs and raw cacao bites after she brought her confections to a photo shoot to great response. In 2018, Zeller moved her production to 7 Miles to Kingston, a 300-year-old stone house and accompanying barn that she fully restored and transformed into a retreat and events venue.

Faceted Vessels by Arc Ceramics

Sarah Mitchell-Davison is a ceramic artist and designer living and working in West Kill, NY.

With a BA in Fine Art, she got her start in interior design and transitioned into fashion working as a leather goods accessories designer in New York City for several years before discovering ceramics. Inspired by the medium, she started to develop a small line of tableware and art objects. Mitchell-Davison uses traditional wheel and hand-building techniques to design and produce her functional and minimal ceramic pieces that take inspiration from urban landscapes, nature, art, and design.

Gifts moms will love:

If your mom always has a vase of fresh flowers on the table or loves to bring in buds from the garden, the Faceted Vase will definitely delight. It has room enough for a few stems, and the graceful, organic-feeling design will stand out as an object of art in its own right. If her home is more a greenhouse in the making, the Small Stoneware Planter will serve as the perfect container for the new plant friend she’s already thinking about picking up at the nursery or garden center this spring.

6. Willow Deep Studio, Rosendale

After a decade in the New York City music industry, Brenna Chase realized she was ready to turn the tables and claim the creative role for herself. After receiving her certification in historic preservation and restoration in Astoria, Oregon, Chase moved back to New York and began honing her skills in the historic arts of stained glass and gold leaf. After moving upstate in 2018, Chase found space to open her own workshop, Willow Deep Studio, in Rosendale and was finally able to combine both of her artforms under one roof.
