Goddess Festival

Benefitting Ulster County’s Battered Women’s Shelter, the three-day celebration features live music, poetry performances, visual art exhibitions, and dance workshops at Woodstock’s Colony Cafe. The annual event features nearly 50 performers, including belly dance troupe Wild Roses and Hemingway’s Cat, a local Middle Eastern influenced funk-rock band.

Last Long Winter Hike at Minnewaska State Park

Cross mountain streams, climb hills, and travel through a section of the 2008 forest fireโ€”which scorched 3,000 acres of the parkโ€”during one of the season’s last hikes. The roughly five mile trip gives attendees the chance to see uncommon wildlife, including New York’s only documented occurrence of the noctuid moth, Zale curema.

Winter Carnival Cardboard Box Derby

Hunter Mountain hosts its fourth annual derby and dummy race, where cardboard, paper, tape, and glue are transformed into dragons, race cars, and UFOโ€™s. Prizes will be awarded based on overall design, spirit and attitude, and construction. Finish the day with live music, a torchlight parade, and fireworks display.

The Florida-based photographer’s exhibition, โ€œWatershed: How Industry has Changed the Water of the World,โ€ opens at the Beacon Institute for Rivers and Estuaries Gallery. The landscape artist finds beauty in the often tenuous and fragile relationship between the natural world and civilization.

Kingston’s St. Patrick’s Day Celebration

Kingston’s Irish celebration hits the ground running with the annual two-mile Shamrock Runโ€”benefiting the People’s Place, a thrift store and food pantryโ€” followed by the St. Patrick Day Parade. Starting at 4pm, BSP Lounge’s first ShamROCK Fest features Irish rock, traditional music, dancers, and bagpipers.

We Will Not Be Moved: Frack Action Benefit

While Hudson Valley residents wait for Governor Cuomo’s fracking decision, local musicians join their voices to benefit the antifracking group at the Bearsville Theater. The spirituals-themed concert features event organizer John Medeski, as well as Natalie Merchant, Amy Helm, Rachel Yamagata, and Marco Benevento.

For two weeks, 200 restaurants across seven counties will offer three-course lunch and dinner meals for less than $30. Started seven years ago by Valley Table magazine, the event helps promote the local food and farm economy, and encourages diners to explore new culinary destinations.
