Angry and confused. Not a great combination. Mercury stationed retrograde last month in the sign of Pisces, but March is the month it shows its more belligerent nature. Mercury has a hard time functioning in Pisces: It can be very creative with “the facts,” and it can conflate emotional states with logic. This is great for poets and painters, not so great for clear messaging, getting the numbers right, or details. Add to that Mercury’s retrograde motion, and it becomes imperative to question everything you see, hear, and think. Yes, question your own thoughts, especially if they’re fueling big emotions.
It’s this particular Mercury, in this particular condition, that is ruling the total lunar eclipse (full moon) in Virgo on March 3. Typically, a full moon in Virgo would symbolize the height of pragmatic clarity, but with its ruler in such rough shape, we get the hyperarousal of our cognitive faculties, when the faculties are compromised. Add to that, Mars’s entrance into Pisces the day before this eclipse on March 2, and we end up in a situation where there’s a surplus of action, energy, and assertion that does not move in a predictable sequence. Or, there’s lots of action that is covert.
Venus enters Aries on March 6 and does its best to cool off hot heads. But the biggest saving grace of the month comes on March 10, with the stationing of Jupiter in Cancer before it starts its direct motion. Jupiter is especially strong in this sign, and could save us from some worst-case-scenarios. A new moon in Pisces on the 18th will encourage forgiveness in a month where it’s easy to make mistakes. On March 20, the sun arrives in Aries, marking the spring equinox in the northern hemisphere, and on the same day Mercury pauses to resume forward motion.
