While working in the catering industry, Nicole Friedman noticed the evolution of on-site stays for wedding parties and guests. What really caught her eye were “glamping” tents in Australia and Europe that were outfitted with soft rugs underfoot, comfy bedding, chairs, tables, and even chandeliers, for a truly luxe camping experience.
Hoping to bring this onsite accommodation option to the Hudson Valley wedding industry, in 2017, Friedman launched GlampStar. The only luxury tent-rental service of its kind in the area, GlampStar offers roomy, all-weather bell tents that are set up at the client’s location and taken down after the event. The Woodstock-based company offers up to 24 original tents that measure 14 feet, nine inches in diameter, and two “DD Sweets,” double-size tents (19 feet, eight inches in diameter) that fit up to four queen-size beds.
Packages range from The Naked—just the tent set-up—all the way up to a home-away-from-home with sumptuous bedding and extras like twinkle lights, vanity mirrors, and bean bags that double as beds. Glampstar was named Best Rental Company by Chronogram readers in the 2021 Chronogrammies.
“No one has to drive after an event, there’s no hotels or Airbnbs to look for, no cleanup,” Friedman says. “Guests don’t have to wait in line after the wedding for transportation back to a hotel.”
And the tents are magical: “One bride said the bed was so comfortable, she could sleep in our tent the rest of her life,” Friedman says.
If guests don’t want to overnight outdoors, Glampstar can pitch and outfit a tent as a lounge area for everyone to use during a wedding. It’s also a perfect place for a bridal party to get ready privately before an outdoor ceremony.
