Spark Media Project hosts this all-day film festival, screening a series of youth-produced short films at the Bardavon Opera House on Friday, November 4. The films spread across multiple genres, often touching on hard-hitting issues like sexuality, race, immigration, and clean water. The event seeks to connect youth and community together, through media arts.
โReel Expressions is about celebrating and sharing different perspectives and realities. Itโs never about winning a prize or coming in first place. Itโs very inspiring and motivating to be in an audience with my peers, and to see what stories they are telling. It helps me to be better, work harder, and continue to push the boundaries of my imagination,โ former Reel Expressions youth filmmaker Darian Henry says.
There will be a Q&A with the filmmakers before the showing, a brief awards ceremony, and a series of interactive animation stations. If youโve ever wanted to explore how a green screen works or enter into the world of cinematic virtual reality, this is your chance.
Teens have the chance to showcase their work to the community. Young people engage with the and explore the media arts, and support their peers while enjoying top-quality films. The festival is aimed at teens and adults, though younger children and families are welcome. Some themes may be more mature and for older audiences.
Tickets are free to youth 21 aged 21 and under. Tickets are $10 for adults, and can be purchased here.
