Like his friends and collaborators Daniel Lanois and T-Bone Burnett, Grammy winner Joe Henry is a formidable double threat: a singer-songwriter who draws from a deep well of rich and varied music and a producer whoโs worked with some of musicโs most respected names. And, speaking of respected names, on December 9 Henry will perform at the home of the one-time home of one of the greatest: Levon Helm Studios in Woodstock, as part of the late Band drummerโs ongoing Midnight Ramble series.
Raised in Detroit, Henry established himself as a recording artist in the 1980s and โ90s via such albums as Shuffletown, Short Manโs Room, and Trampoline, which exemplify his organic, alchemical, and quiet blend of country, soul, blues, folk, and jazz. As a producer, heโs helped craft albums by Elvis Costello, Allen Toussaint, Ani DiFranco, Joan Baez, and others.
Hereโs a track from Henryโs 14th and newest album, Thrum:
