โWhen
you all sing together magic happens that heals you,โ Shana Falana, the founder
and matriarch of mammoth all-woman art choir and performance troupe the Goddess Party, told me when I interviewed her for the October 2024 issue of Chronogram.
On March 21 and 22, the magic will once again happen when a scaled-down
incarnation of the theatrical group presents โGoddess Party Unpluggedโ at Lady Odd Fellows
AKA the historic Odd Fellows Temple in Saugerties.
Instead
of the 40-plus member cast of singers and musicians that appeared at the changeable
ensembleโs sold-out appearance at Basilica Hudson last November, the โUnpluggedโ
shows will feature just over 30 performers spanning
diverse voices and backgrounds. The Goddess Partyโs repertoire of ethereal and
high-energy songs ranges from original compositions to Bulgarian field songs to
punk anthems by Le Tigre, PJ Harvey, the Go-Goโs, and others.
Accompanying the
music are thematic visuals, choreographed movements, immersive lighting, bespoke
costumes and props, and projected imagery. For this engagement, the latter will
be handled by projection artist BA Miale, who will transform the space with
immersive projections set to a โpink โ80s promโ theme. Attendees are encouraged
to come dressed for the occasion and stay after each show for a โfull-blown
80โs dance party!โ
The
Goddess Party will present โGoddess Party Unpluggedโ at the Odd Fellows Temple
in Saugerties on March 21 and 22 at 8pm. A dance party will follow each
performance. Tickets are $25 (pay at the door with cash, Venmo, or credit card;
the events are in a third-floor walk-up space that wonโt be accessible to
everyone; standing room only and with very limited seating). See website for
more information.
