Sitting down over coffee with Meshell Ndegeocello in her home town of Hudson for the April 2013 Chronogram profile I did on the Grammy-nominated bassist-composer was a wonderful experience. At that time, the Washington, DC-raised artist had just returned from overseas shows supporting her newest album, Pour une Âme Souveraine: A Dedication to Nina Simone. Recently, online, Ndegeocello released a video of that album’s sublime version of the Leonard Cohen classic “Suzanne,” a song Simone famously reinterpreted.

The clip is an inventively collaborative effort, made by Ndegeocello with several fans. Here it is:
