Woodstock-based stuffed bagel brand Moonrise Bagels threw open the doors to its second location on July 20. The new spot, in a plaza in Poughkeepsie, is already drawing long lines for the gourmet, grab-and-go meals with options from a classic bacon, egg, and cheese to the deluxe reuben.In April, Moonburger opened its third location on Route 9 in Poughkeepsie inside a Mobil, making it the first plant-based burger spot inside a gas station in the country. With more space and the context of the gas station as creative confines, the new spot is a fun extension of Moonburger’s visual branding. (P.S. In a polarizing choice, in October Moonburger rolled out a premium beef option alongside their classic plant-based patty.)With a new business partner at his side, Brian Arnoff, the proprietor behind Beacon’s Kitchen Sink and Meyer’s Olde Dutch, expanded his classic burger joint concept with a second MOD location in Poughkeepsie earlier this year. Right across from the Vassar campus, the spot is a modern interpretation of a classic burger joint that promises local ingredients, made-from-scratch sauces, and condiments—not to mention a full cocktail bar.Waterfront dining and drinks are back at the ice house in Poughkeepsie’s Waryas Park. The Governess, which opened early August, offers cocktails and signature twists on classic American food, like its two sister restaurants in Queens, The Baroness and the Huntress.With French bistro-meets-Grand Central vibes, the new Barbue Bar offers a destination for Cajun cuisine and cocktails in Eastdale Village, from the team behind Buns Burger. For co-owner, CIA alum, and Louisiana native Ryan Viator, it’s a dream 20 years in the making.Palace Dumpling in Wappingers Falls has long been known for bringing exceptional cuisine to the commonplace…place. Their spot on Route 9 has risen to legendary status over the past 14 years for the handmade dumplings and from-scratch northern Chinese fare. In February, they debuted a second location in Poughkeepsie in a sprawling new strip mall full of fast food restaurants. Over 30 assortments of dumplings are kneaded, rolled, filled, and shaped daily, alongside a variety of other made-to-order dishes and housemade sauces.Chef David Cruz brings a new mentality to the kitchen, cultivating a communicative and supportive environment, which gives life to his street food concept-driven restaurant Reconnect Foods. He also does pop-up dinners and cooking workshops.At The Heartwood, a newly constructed net-zero hotel on the Vassar campus, the onsite farm-to-table restaurant, the Salt Line, is helmed by a CIA-trained chef Zachary Lovenguth, who honed his skills and built his network of local farmers at the elbows of culinary greats.
