The Hudson Valley’s favorite roller disco party of the season is back on June 3. What co-organizer Sean Nutley happily dubs “Studio 54 on Wheels,” the fourth annual Catskills Roller Disco will feature a night of groovy rhythms, funky costumes, dance-offs, and a stacked line-up of DJs at Skate Time in Accord.
A man of many hats, Nutley, who co-owns Bluecashew in Kingston, also acted as the real estate agent who brokered the deal to save the party’s venue, Skate Time, from an unsure, but surely less exciting fate. Over the past few years, the skate rink, formerly known as Skate Time 209, had changed owners several times and was possibly going to become a municipal building when everyone’s favorite local snack mavens, BjornQorn, purchased the property as a dual-purpose production facility/lifestyle extension of their brand.
After repairs and renovations, the skating rink opened up in late February with the Catskills Roller Disco already on the calendar of planned events. Their arcade, with skee ball and hoops, will be open during the party as well as the new bar, serving local beer, canned wine, and Bad Seed Cider for when you need a cool-off from the rink.
Defected Records Anna Collecta will spin a mix of disco and school house tracks, sharing the bill with producer Eli of Soul Clap, and Zev, founder of the roller disco and half of Wolf + Lamb, who will be spinning danceable hits from the ‘70s through present day.
Come in your zhuzhed-up disco finest to compete int he costume contest for a chance at prizes from local businesses. For the skate elite, the Ultimate Roller Disco Hustle Class offers a chance to show off your skills.
Tickets for the Catskills Roller Disco are $30, which includes a skate rental and admission to the after party at the Stonehill’s barn. The Roller Disco runs from 7pm to 11pm, and the after party, with its own impressive billing will go until the wee hours of the morning. (The Catskill Cocktail Club’s Brendan Casey will be on-hand to mix-up tasty drinks.)
Local favorite DJs including Redlion, Garret Roche, and Sensay Shnay share the bill with Wolf + Lamb’s Baby Prince; multi-instrumentalist, producer, and DJ David Kiss of House of Yes; and Peter Napoli. The bucolic building will be turned into a bumping nightclub courtesy of a lighting installation by Niteminds and sound by local engineer White Rabbit Audio.
