The Hunts

After the grand opening of Lumberyard’s new 7,000-square-foot performance space on September 1, the organization is taking a short pause in programming before jumping into the inaugural Fall season.

Programming resumes with a bang on Saturday, September 29 at 5pm with a performance of “Jack &” a riveting new work directed by NYC-based theater artist Kaneza Schaal. The piece examines markers of transition and transformation, social codes, and rites of passage, starring Cornell Alston as Jack. After this technical residency in Catskill, the production will be staged at the Brooklyn Academy of Music (BAM).

In October, the modern-day Von Trapp family will pop into Lumberyard for a show. The Hunts are a seven-piece sibling outfit from Virginia, whose collective childhood love of music grew into a love of composing and performing. The indie-folk band has toured with big names like The Fray and OAR, and will play a single show in Catskill at 7pm, October 6.

On October 12 and 13, Kimberly Bartosik will present “I hunger for you.” Featuring five dancers, this extended piece uses light and negative light to illuminate the indulgent impulses, the pursuit of transformation, and the push-pull between compassion and brutality in collective settings.

In December, Lumberyard will host a rare work-in-progress performance of “The Day,” a sensory collaboration by dancer Wendy Whelan, cellist Maya Beiser, and choreographer Lucinda Childs with music by David Lang in advance of the piece’s debut next summer at Jacob’s pillow.
