And the Kids and TEEN at BSP
In 2016, Chronogram profiled indie rock sensations And the Kids for our August issue. Since then, the Northampton, Massachusetts, band has expanded from a trio to a quartet and has just released its third album, When This Life is Over. On May 5 at 7:30pm, the band returns to their traditional Kingston haunt BSP with all-sisters, Halifax-by-way-of-Brooklyn alt-poppers TEEN.

Farm & Flea at Basilica Hudson
On May 11 and 12 from 10am to 6pm each day—that’s Mother’s Day weekend, gift seekers—Basilica Hudson’s Farm & Flea Spring Market makes its sixth return to the architecturally wondrous Columbia County venue. The twice-yearly event (another market is held every November) sees the 10,000-square-foot space filled with a juried array of regional farmers, artisans, and collectors selling their wares. Food and live music add to the experience.

Che Apalache at Daryl’s House
Argentinian acoustic quartet Che Apalache call their music, a blend of South American folk styles and bluegrass, “Latingrass.” Discovered and produced by famed banjo player Bela Fleck, the group has been featured on NPR’s “All Things Considered” and toured the US three times in 2018. This year, they’re back for three more tours and will appear at Daryl’s House in Pawling on May 8 at 7pm.

Marinna Rothen’s “Mail Order” in Hurley
Marianna Rothen’s arresting photographs have traditionally focused on women in imaginary settings and excluded men. But her new series, “Mail Order,” which can be seen May 3-19 at Gallery 222 in Hurley, breaks that tradition. “Mail Order” includes male figures—in the form of stoic mannequins—posed provocatively with Rothen’s retro-styled female characters as commentary on gender politics, women’s rights, and the #MeToo movement.

Common Ground Farm’s Annual Plant Sale
Every year, Dutchess County’s Common Ground Farm holds a one-day plant sale for Hudson Valley residents to purchase vegetables, herbs, and flower plants. This year, the much-anticipated event takes place on May 11 at the corner of Cross and Main streets in Beacon (rain location: Beacon Yoga Center on Main Street). All seedlings are started from seed in the farm’s greenhouse in organic potting soil and are not sprayed or treated with chemicals.
