In conjunction with April’s being National Jazz Month, the Claverack Free Library in Claverack is hosting several jazz-oriented events this month. On view through May in the library’s Marilyn and Bob Laurie Gallery is “The Jazz I Saw,” an exhibit of select photographs from the collection of Dr. Jeffrey Monkash.
The exhibition features rare images of John Coltrane, Thelonious Monk, Sonny Rollins, and other jazz greats loaned to the library for display by Monkash, who has been collecting jazz photography and recordings for several decades.
On May 1 at 4pm, the library will host a free screening of the 1972 Billie Holiday biopic Lady Sings the Blues, which was directed by Sidney J. Furie and stars Diana Ross in the lead role.
