Don Slepian

Tubby’s booking chief and co-owner Cory Plump is certainly no slacker when it comes to digging deep during his quest for intriguing acts to plug into the venue’s calendar. And this week presents a plum example of his atypical programming tenacity: New age electronic synthesizer pioneer Don Slepian, who will bring his spaced-out, meditative music to the nightclub on October 15.

A classically trained electronics nerd raised in Hawaii and now living in New Jersey, Slepian in 1980 released the landmark Sea of Bliss, which is frequently cited as one of new age’s greatest albums and is one of the genre’s most sought-after cassette-only recordings. The rare, well-named album is comprised of two side-length Alles synthesizer tracks and was recently reissued by the ultrahip Numero Group label, whose marketing copy touts its ability to “transport listeners to personal paradises for relaxation, rest, focus, and reset.”

Don Slepian will perform at Tubby’s in Kingston on October 15 at 7pm. Saapato will open. Tickets are $19.06.
