Sylvan Esso

EDITOR’S NOTE: As of 3/29 this show is sold out.

In most ways, electronic duo Sylvan Esso would seem to be quite a departure from singer Amelia Meath and producer Nick Sanbornโ€™s earlier outfits, acapella folk trio Mountain Man and alt-country rock band Megafaun, respectively. But, then again, underneath all the blips and glitchy-ness, the North Carolina act, which plays Mass MoCA on March 31, in many ways also carries over the core essences of both its members prior projects.

As with Mountain Man, Meathโ€™s lilting voice brings an ancient, irresistible sadness to the music. And like he has with Megafaun (and more so with Made of Oak, his solo electronic guise), Sanborn alludes to psychedelia with his percolating laptop backdrops. The pairโ€™s eponymous 2014 debut went Top 40 via the singles โ€œHey Miamiโ€ and โ€œCoffeeโ€; its loaded-title followup, What Now, appeared last August.

Hereโ€™s the official video for โ€œDie Young,โ€ from What Now:
