Nestled in the scenic Hudson Valley, the storied Tioronda Estate in Beacon, is set to enter a new chapter in its history. On November 14, The Mirbeau Companies will break ground for the highly anticipated Mirbeau Inn & Spa Beacon, transforming the 64-acre property into a luxurious destination that blends modern amenities with rich historical character. This grand project, scheduled to open by early 2026, promises a sanctuary for wellness, relaxation, and natural beauty.

This isn’t the first project in the region for Mirbeau, which also operates Mirbeau Inn & Spa Rhinebeck, a hotel inspired by Parisian architecture, landscaping, and luxury with 50 guest rooms and 14 spa treatment rooms set on 2.8 acres in the village that debuted in 2019. While the Rhinebeck location was a new-build project, the Beacon hotel marks the brandโ€™s first local purchase and restoration of a historic estate.

Completed in the 1860s and designed by notable local architect Frederick Clarke Withers, the Tioronda Estate, aka Craig House, was built for Joseph and Eliza Howland. The original property encompassed 234 acres and included the main Gothic mansion, a school building, and several outbuildings. Throughout its history, the property has been used as a school, chapel, emergency hospital, and home for the mentally ill (with patients including Zelda Fitzgerald and Kennedy).

In 2018, Mirbeau purchased the Tioronda property for $5.5 million. The estateโ€™s main mansion will serve as the heart of the new resort. The buildingโ€™s Gothic architectural details, including the music room designed by Howlandโ€™s brother in-law Richard Morris Hunt with its massive pipe organ, will be preserved to honor the estate’s historic elegance and charm. (The architect is also behind another Beacon landmark: the Howland Cultural Center.)

The Mirbeau Inn & Spa Beacon will feature a blend of restored historical spaces and modern accommodations, including a newly constructed chateau that will house 72 luxurious guest rooms. Like with the Rhinebeck hotel, the Beacon resort will draw from French-inspired design, with a lush landscape that includes ponds and gardens reminiscent of Monetโ€™s Giverny, enhancing the resortโ€™s tranquil ambiance.

The crown jewel of the resort will be its 25,000-square-foot spaโ€”the largest in the Mirbeau collection. With 21 treatment rooms, a meditation pool, decompression rooms, and an outdoor aqua terrace, guests will have ample space to unwind and rejuvenate. The spa will also offer a stunning outdoor bar and terrace with hot pools and cabanas for an immersive relaxation experience.

Dining options will include an upscale bistro and wine bar, along with the Champagne Terrace on the historic mansionโ€™s terrace overlooking the gardens. Seasonal menus featuring locally sourced ingredients will honor the estate’s heritage and enhance the culinary experience. The resort will offer 3,000 square feet of flexible meeting and event space, along with an outdoor tented area for weddings and other celebrations.

Beyond indulging in the amenities of the estate itself, Mirbeau Inn & Spa Beacon will offer guests easy access to Beaconโ€™s cultural and outdoor attractions, including the nearby Dia Beacon, Storm King Art Center, local trailheads, and Beaconโ€™s culinary and craft brewing scene.

“We are thrilled to bring the Mirbeau experience to Beacon, a location rich with historical significance and natural beauty, says Mirbeau CEO Michael Dal Pos. โ€œOur goal is to create an oasis that seamlessly merges the storied past of Tioronda with the luxurious hospitality that defines Mirbeau.”
