As spring arrives in the Hudson Valley, local native plant nurseries are ready to help gardeners make the most of the season. These nurseries specialize in offering plants that are well-suited to the local climate and ecosystem, providing food and habitat.ย According to John Messerschmidt, owner of Hudson Valley Native Landscaping in High Falls, the first question you should always ask when plant shopping is: Is it native? โ€œIf the answer is no,” he says, “it does nothing to contribute to the wildlife around you.”

From perennials and shrubs to edible and medicinal plants, native plants provide a variety of options for gardeners looking to create sustainable landscapes. Many of these nurseries also offer additional services, such as landscape design, ecological consultations, and educational workshops. Whether youโ€™re a DIY gardener or an expert looking to create a wildlife-friendly garden, learn about sustainable practices, or find low-maintenance plants, the Hudson Valleyโ€™s native plant nurseries have something for every green thumb.
