As COVID-19 devastates the nation's economy, restaurants are in a particularly tough spot. In the Hudson Valley, many eateries have either closed down completely or furloughed the majority of their employees and are working with a limited staff to fulfill takeout and delivery orders. On March 23, the Greene County Chamber of Commerce launched a new initiative to support local restaurants: Take-Out Weeks. Through April 5, the Chamber is encouraging residents to order from still-open Greene County restaurants, many of which are featuring special deals, offering delivery and curbside pick-up, and promoting gift cards.

“We’re doing this to encourage folks to support our local restaurants, maybe get a chance to brighten their own day by getting some food they might be missing by not being able to go out to their favorite restaurants,” says Jeff Friedman, President and Executive Director of the Greene County Chamber of Commerce.

On the Take Out Weeks page, you can find all 50+ restaurants that are open and links to their social media pages for live updates about hours and promotions.

Joey LoBianco, owner of Rip Van Winkle Brewing Co. in Catskill, NY, is one of the many Greene County restaurants that have taken a hit in this time of crisis, but is remaining open and participating in Take-Out Weeks to keep his business and community “chugging along.”

“We have 35 years here, most of our customers are our friends and people that we’ve known for so long, and they’re concerned,” says LoBianco. “I’m overwhelmed by the generosity that comes out of people.”
