Hudson Valley Flamenco Festival Kicks Off

Bust out those castanets and put on your zapatos de baile!

The Hudson Valley Flamenco Festival will return to Ulster County for its fourth annual season on August 6 and 7.

Spotlighting local and international flamenco artists and collaborating with a number of local businesses and arts organizations, the two-day event features live flamenco performances in Newburgh, New Paltz, and Gardiner.

“We’re going to have another world-class festival this year, with new and returning artists from New York and Spain,” says flamenco artist and HVFF producer Anna Librada Georges. “We are presenting an innovational work by artist Barbara Martinez, and we are so excited to once again make our valley echo with the dynamic rhythms and haunting melodies of flamenco.”

Schedule and ticket information for the festival is as follows:

August 6 at 11:30am at Safe Harbors in Newburgh: “Flamenco for Everybody. Admission is free.

August 6 at 6pm at Unison Arts in New Paltz: Andreas Arnold and Mario Rincon. Tickets are $30/$25/$15, $25, and $30.

August 7 at 11:30am at the Gardiner Library in Gardiner: “TrashBata,” a one-woman dance theater production that uses the language of flamenco to speak to the problem of plastic. Conceived and performed by Barbara Martinez. Admission is free.

August 7 at 6pm at Whitecliff Vineyard in Gardiner: “Flamenco in the Wild.” Tickets are $15, $25, and $30. “Be transported to the sun-baked vineyards of Andalusia,” say the organizers. “Bring a picnic, chairs, and blankets and enjoy the offerings of the Whitecliff Vineyard while you watch a mesmerizing, moving flamenco performance as the sun sets over the ridge.”
