I Brake for Croque Monsieurs on Route 28: Bistro-to-Go

Posted By on Thu, Jan 17, 2013 at 11:43 PM

Whenever I go to Bistro-to-Go, I feel like all the customers know each other. I often see guys here sitting by themselves on their lunch break, immersed in their lunch. Last week I stopped by here because I was craving their slow cooked food. I started with a cup of their soup du jour which was Mediterranean chickpea and spinach soup. It was very spicy, but I love spicy food especially in the winter. I ordered the Thai Tofu Wrap with peanut sauce, which is the same thing I always get, but very good. Tom had the tuna salad.

The plats du jours are always tempting. On this particular day, they had Croque Monsieur, which transported my senses to those bakeries in France that showcase their fresh-out-of-the-oven sandwiches in the windows.

There are a few tables where you can eat your food if you can't wait to eat it. Frozen food is also for sale if you want to heat up the food later and pretend you made the soupe de poisson yourself. Bistro-to-Go owners, landscape painter Mary Anne Erickson and Chef Richard Erickson, believe in "slow food" cuisine, and take great care in cooking with local farm produce, free-range chickens, and grass-fed beef, and offering gluten-free options too. Don't forget to buy a gluten-free cupcake on the way out!
