Great jazz is always welcome around here, so it’s great to hear about vocalist Teri Roiger’s Jazzstock organization teaming up with the Catskill Jazz Factory arts group to promote two exciting August events at the Orpheum Performing Arts Center in Tannersville.

“Jelly and George,” on August 9 at 7:30pm, is a tribute to the music of Jelly Roll Morton and George Gershwin. The program’s cast of incredible musicians includes singer Cecile McLorin Salvant (winner of the 2010 Thelonious Monk Jazz Vocal Competition), pianists Aaron Diehl (the Catskill Jazz Factory’s artistic director) and Marcus Roberts, drummer Jason Marsalis, and bassist Rodney Jordan. Tickets range from $7 to $28.

On August 10 at 7:30pm is the second annual “Live at the Orpheum” concert, a “high-energy” evening featuring all the participants of the Catskill Jazz Factory’s week-long artist-in-residence program. Tickets are $10.
