Rock 'n' Roll Art on View in Saugerties

Saugerties Rock City? Not when I lived there, says this former Saugertisian. But right now I’m tempted to rethink that a bit, thanks to “Rock Shots Rock: The Art of Music/The Music of Art,” an event at the Saugerties Performing Arts Factory that’s being touted as “an extravaganza of rock art, fashion, film, and sound!” The exhibit, which opened last weekend, includes images (some for sale) by rock photographers Bob Gruen, Mick Rock, Lynn Goldsmith, Paul Zone, Marcia Resnick, Sue Rynski, Carol Fonde, Danile Corrigan, Ricky Longgo Burrows, and Veretta Cobler.

The show also includes works by several musicians who are also fine artists, such as Niagara Detroit and Ben and Larry Miller of Destroy All Monsters, Prairie Prince of the Tubes, Dave Pirner of Soul Asylum, Roger Miller of Mission of Burma, and local Justin Love. Cartoonist and writer John Holmstrom of Punk magazine and Richard Boch, author of an upcoming book about his years working at fabled nightspot the Mudd Club, have also contributed several creations. Director Gorman Bechard's Color Me Obsessed: A Film About The Replacements and other films will be screened
