The jazz quartet Walking Distance recently debuted with Neighborhood on the always-hip Ropeadope label. And this month the group comes to our neighborhood, to celebrate the album’s release with a performance at the Millbrook Library.
According to the band’s bio, Walking Distance—Caleb Curtis (alto saxophone), Kenny Pexton (tenor saxophone), Adam Cote (double bass), and Shawn Baltazor (drums)—“revels in a wide range of possibilities; from melodic swing and grooving rock, to free bop and soulful ballads, with a dash of terror-inducing chaos.” Sounds right up my alley (and yours, too, fellow jazz head).
Here’s an excerpt of the group performing “Dewey Circle”:
Walking Distance will perform at the Millbrook Library in Millbrook, New York, on January 31 at 5pm. Admission is free. For more information, call (845) 677-3611 or visit http://millbrooklibrary.org/.
