Veronica Lewis Visits Daryl’s House | September 22
Dubbed “one of the most promising torchbearers of American Rock ’n’ Roll” by American Songwriter magazine and the 2020 winner of the Boston Music Award for Blues Artist of the Year, Veronica Lewis is pure dynamite. The New England-raised singer-songwriter and pianist nails the New Orleans style of Professor Longhair, James Booker, Dr. John, et al while bringing her own soulful spice to the joyous dance party. She’ll perform at Daryl’s House in Pawling on September 22 at 7pm. Tickets are $15 and $20.
Sharp 5 Celebrates Album in Kingston | September 23
Talk about pedigree. Sharp 5 is a new Brazilian-style jazz band featuring vocalist Teri Roiger (Kenny Burrell, Jack DeJohnette), keyboardist Pete Levin (Miles Davis, Gil Evans), bassist John Menegon (“Fathead” Newman, Joe Lovano), drummer Jeff Siegel (Mose Allison, Kurt Elling), and percussionist and guitarist Nanny Assis (Janis Siegel). In honor of their new album, Shine a Bright Light, the quintet comes to Kingston’s Senate Garage on September 23 at 7:30pm for an evening sponsored by promotions group Jazzstock. Tickets are $31.20.
Poughkeepsie Event Has Top Celebrity Chef | September 24
On September 24 at 6pm, the swank Poughkeepsie event space Revel 32 will present “DDDD (Dine, Drink, Dance, & Demo),” an “exclusive multisensory experience” featuring a cocktail hour and three-course meal prepared by celebrity chef David Burke along with cooking demos; a display of cars from Hudson Cadillac; and live music by jazz artist Hayden Williams and cover band Jukebox Junkies. Tickets are $95.
Festival Brings Prog Rock to Nyack | September 25
Sonic Voyage Fest, which will take place at Olive’s in Nyack at 8pm, promises performances by three acclaimed progressive rock bands in an epic evening of unbridled virtuosity. Sharing the bill will be the Ad Astra, Mile Marker Zero, and Joe Deninzon and Stratospheerius. The latter group is led by singer and musician Joe Deninzon, who has worked with the likes of Bruce Springsteen, Renaissance, the Who, 50Cent, and Trans-Siberian Orchestra and been called “the Jimi Hendrix of the violin.” Admission is $5.
Reginald Madison Art Event in Catskill | September 25
Artist Reginald “Reggie” Madison has long been a treasured figure of the Hudson-area arts scene. On September 25 at 5:30pm, in celebration of “Homegrown,” Madison’s current exhibition at Hudson’s September Gallery (through October 10), the Foreland arts center in Catskill will host “Space is the Place,” an evening of art and jazz curated by Michael Mosby. For the event, Madison will be joined by a jazz trio comprised of saxophonist Anthony Ware, bassist Eric Wheeler, and drummer Jerome Jennings, for a Sun Ra-inspired composition. Tickets are $10.
Wild Plant Foraging Tour in Saugerties | September 25
Renowned herbalist Dina Falconi, the author of Foraging and Feasting: A Field Guide and Wild Food Cookbook, will lead a free tour sponsored by Library of Local highlighting edible weeds at the Sharestead in Saugerties on September 25 at 11am. The Sharestead is a permaculture food forest created by FutureFruit’s founder Jared Williams and Lala Montoya. During the two-hour walk, attendees will be introduced to a host of plants by name and learn the benefits each can offer your health, nutrition, and flavor. Registration is required.
“Behind Closed Doors” Stories in New Paltz | September 26
Unison Arts Center in New Paltz will host “Behind Closed Doors: Stories from the Time of COVID,” an interdisciplinary dance and arts festival, on September 26 at 1:30pm. The outdoor and livestream event features the work of 25 artists via a photography exhibit complimented by an outdoor, seated performance of dance, live music, and poetry readings. In a statement, Unison’s staff say that they “hope to use this festival as a celebration of what we have overcome, a reflection on what we have experienced, and an opportunity to reignite the artistry of our communities.” Tickets are $20 ($18 seniors, $15 members, $10 virtual viewers).
Sculpture Exhibit at Farm in Brewster | through October 31
On view now through October 31 at Tilly Foster Farm in Brewster is “Collaborative Concepts,” an outdoor exhibition of 46 large-scale sculptures. The historic 199-acre farm features pastoral vistas, hiking trails, a community garden, charming farm animals, and a farm-to-table dining experience. The show and the farm are open seven days a week from 10am to 4pm. The restaurant at Tilly Foster is open Wednesday through Saturday 5-9pm and Sunday 11am to 3pm and 5 to 9pm. Admission is free.
