Country folk singer-songwriter Iris DeMent is a master of subtle wordplay, melody, and observation. Her heartbroken 1992 debut, Infamous Angel, with the painfully poignant signature tune โOur Town,โ set forth her at once innocent and world-weary style. After a few years away from our region, DeMent is returning on May 13 to share the bill with Loudon Wainwright III at Tarrytown Music Hall.
DeMentโs newest album, 2015โs sparse Trackless Words, features 18 poems by Russian poet Anna Ahkmatova adapted to music.
Here, DeMent performs โThe Night I Learned How Not to Prayโ live last year:
Iris Dement and Loudon Wainwright III will perform at Tarrytown Music Hall in Tarrytown, New York, on May 13 at 8pm. Tickets are $35, $40, and $45. For more information, call (914) 631-3390 or visit http://tarrytownmusichall.org/.
