Algiers

Iโ€™m still recovering from last weekโ€™s run of awesome shows (Kid Congo/Slim Cessna; Yo La Tengo; Creation Factory/Mystic Braves) at BSP, but Iโ€™m sure Iโ€™ll be rarinโ€™ to go when yet another one hits the Kingston venue this week: Atlanta-New York-London-based indie quartet Algiers, who will perform on Sunday.

The socio-politically conscious bandโ€™s sophomore album, The Underside of Power, was released this past June and was coproduced by Portisheadโ€™s Adrian Utley and mixed by studio ace Randall Dunn (Sunn O)))). According to the band, the albumโ€™s 12 dark, experimental-but-danceable tracks draw from hip-hop, Italian horror movie soundtracks, gospel, dub reggae, โ€™80s punk and industrial, and Northern Soul.

Dig this heady concept clip for the new albumโ€™s title track:

Algiers will perform with Kyle and the Pity Party and Peter Naddeo at BSP Kingston in Kingston, New York, on September 23 at 7:30pm. Tickets are $12 in advance and $15 at the door. For more information, call (845) 481-5158 or visit http://bspkingston.com/.
