Now celebrating their 20th year as a band, famed experimental pop quartet Animal Collective will appear at a venue that perfectly mirrors their neon-glowing modernist approach when they perform at Mass MoCA in North Adams, Massachusetts, on March 11 at 8pm. LโRain will open.
To many, Animal Collective is emblematic of the eclectic indie rock sound of their home borough of Brooklyn, meshing psychedelic and electro/techno elements with free folk touches.
Comprised of members Panda Bear (Noah Lennox), Avey Tare (David Portner), Deakin (Josh Dibb), and Geologist (Brian Weitz), the group is touring this month in support of their first album in 10 years, Time Skiffs. Called โone of the most consistently brilliant bands in indie music” by Paste magazine, the outfit had its critical breakthrough with their 2004 album Sung Tongs and reached a wider audience with 2009โs highly influential Merriweather Post Pavillion.
Opening act LโRain, who performed at Mass MoCA last summer, is another adventurous Brooklyn-based artist. The singer-songwriter and producer creates atmospheric and intimately soulful music using synthesizers, electric guitar, and various effects.
For this concert, Animal Collective has partnered with the non-profit social/environmental justice organization PLUS1 so that $1 from each ticket sold will go to support organizations advancing justice, equity, and dignity, including Serve Your City DC and National Harm Reduction Coalition. Tickets are $43. For more information, visit the Mass MoCA website.
