Overview:
The party at West Kill Supply and Tubby's trumpets a new CD on Dromedary Records with performances by featured bands.
In recent years, dozens of archival regional compilation albums have appeared, decades after the fact, to document the now-vanished underground music scenes of the past. Fortunately, 2020s Kingston wonโt have to wait for its closeup: Local label Dromedary Records has stepped up to chronicle the cityโs current underground era with Get Your Rond Out!, a new collection of area bands. The release will be celebrated on May 2 at Tubbyโs and West Kill Supply with an all-day party featuring performances by artists who appear on the album.
In the early years of regional DIY punk, local compilations were king. Many of the bands featured on these albums didnโt have the means to release music themselves, but by contributing a track to a collective effort they could let the world at large know that they existed and be part of a snapshot of the scene they helped to make up.
Subtitled “An Incomplete Collection of Kingston-area Bands,” Get Your Rond Out! includes 16 bands, among them Dead Unicorn, Tiny Blue Ghost, Overheard, Dauber, Wygalator, Tiger Piss, Hush Woods, the Grackles, Miss America, Wilde Vier, Sweet Harm, and A Whole Nother. Taken as a whole, the set gives a great glimpse into the diversity of contemporary Kingston-area independent sounds: Indie pop, punk, electronica, folk rock, experimental, and other styles make up this rich smorgasbord of sonic discovery.
โThis is a love letter to Kingston, New York, its wonderful artists, music venues, and performance spaces,โ says Dromedary Records founder Al Crisafulli. โSupport your scene.โ All profits from the CD will be donated to Peopleโs Place, the largest food pantry in Ulster County.
Dromedary Recordsโ Get Your Rond Out! record release party will take place at West Kill Supply and Tubbyโs in Kingston and kicks off at 1pm. Admission is $5, with all proceeds going to Peopleโs Place.
