The outsider comedian and puppeteer will bring his oddball songs and show to Unicorn Bar on September 17.
In a rare area small-club event, outsider artist, puppeteer, musician, and actor David Liebe Hart, most known for his roles on the Adult Swim network’s “Tim and Eric Awesome Show, Great Job!,” will bring his brand of offbeat comedy to Unicorn Bar on September 17.
A Chicago native, the inscrutable Hart developed his interest in puppeteering while attending church Sunday school as a child and claims to have gotten his start performing in Hollywood with Robin Williams and in a 1977 episode of “The Gong Show” (although no evidence of those associations can be found on the internet), and his public access show “Junior Christian Bible Teaching Program” had a cult following in the LA region. Hart’s winningly weird act speaks for itself, with his bizarre, bemusing original songs about aliens, food, trains, relationships, and other topics. Backed by electronic musician Jonah “Th’ Mole” Mociun, he performs and tells stories in the company of his stable of homemade puppets.
Opening the show for Hart will be two other intriguing performers: Albany/New York City filmmaker and musician Schimaera AKA Monkey, who has worked with DIY music legend R. Stevie Moore and others; and Capital Region experimental theatrical musician Zovi.
David Liebe Hart will perform with Schimaera AKA Monkey and Zovi at Unicorn Bar in Kingston on September 17 at 7pm. Tickets are $15 in advance and $20 day of show.
