The Hudson Valley folk super group and the Grammy-nominated bluesman will play the Towne Crier on September 4.
Befitting the band’s name, Guthrie’s Ghost is a regional folk super group, and their annual show at the Pete Seeger’s hometown venue, the Towne Crier—this year on September 4, where they’ll share the bill with folk blues great Guy Davis—is always a much-anticipated event.
Comprised of Jacob and David Bernz, Fred Gillen Jr., Steve Kirkman, Julie Corbalis, and Jeff Eyrich—all of them local-luminary solo performers outside of the band—Guthrie’s Ghost specialize in songs celebrating the rights and traditions of working people. The group was formed in 2022 on the anniversary of Pete Seeger’s passing and strives with their performances to keep his legacy, music, and spirit alive.
Davis is a Grammy-nominated singer-songwriter as well as an actor, author, and playwright who has won multiple awards for his music and stage shows. Born in New York in 1952, he is the son of actor Ruby Dee and Ossie Davis. His most prominent screen and stage appearances include roles in the 1984 film Beat Street and the award-winning 1993 play “Robert Johnson: Trick the Devil.”
Guthrie’s Ghost and Guy Davis will coheadline at the Towne Crier in Beacon on September 4 at 8pm. Tickets are $25, $30.
