It’s 22 in ’22: With its return to Waryas Park in Poughkeepsie on August 21, the Jazz in the Valley festival will celebrate its 22nd year this year, 2022. Also being celebrated by the festival this time around is the 100th birthday of the late jazz giant Charles Mingus.
Presented by Transart & Cultural Services, Inc., and guest curated by trombonist Craig Harris, the day-long event will honor the centennial of the legendary bassist, composer, and bandleader with a lineup of six exceptional musicians: violinist Regina Carter, singer Carla Cook, pianist Michael King, drummer Joaquin Pozo, saxophonist Camille Thurman-Green, and, in the starring role of Mingus-disciple bassist, the great Buster Williams, an NEA Jazz Master.
