As we inch our way up to August (can the summer be nearly gone, so soon?), the upstart music festivals continue to tumble out here in the Hudson Valley. This Saturday and Sunday, one such happening, the roots/folk-oriented Blackdome Music Festival, marks its second year at the civic center in the lovely mountaintop town of Windham.
Topping the bill on Saturday are Maine-born, Nashville-based singer-songwriter Keelan Donovan, whose 2017 single, “Touch and Go” broke into Top 40 on the Hot AC Radio Chart. Preceding Donovan that night will be Boston’s Sam Moss, a fingerpicking guitarist of formidable virtuosity who drifts between deep folk rock singer-songwriter fare and transcendent instrumentals in the John Fahey/Leo Kottke mold. Opening the bill are area folk duo the Hudson Dusters; the event begins at 2:30pm with a talk on guitar making and restoration by noted local luthier Robert “Cue” Gerhards. Tickets are $20; seniors (60+) $18; students $15; children 12 and under free. The fest finishes up on Sunday at 11am with a free family concert by author and composer Michael Hearst.
