The Merlin and Polina Shepherd Klezmer Duo

I wonโ€™t waste this space talking up my own extracurricular activities, but I will say Iโ€™m proud to have been able to shine a little light this week on those of two other Chronogramยฌยฌ-ers who also write about music: John Burdick, whose band the Sweet Clementines were highlighted on Tuesday, and, today, Seth Rogovoy, whose Rogovoy Salon series will present the Merlin and Polina Shepherd Klezmer Duo at Club Helsinki on April 8.

Hailing from the UK, the Merlin and Polina Shepherd Klezmer Duo blends world music, jazz, classical, Islamic, Russian, Yiddish, and klezmer sounds. โ€œMerlin Shepherd is widely considered one of the greatest and most influential klezmer clarinetists of our time,โ€ says Seth. โ€œPolina Shepherdโ€™s diverse musical background and her extraordinary native talent as a vocalist and pianist have quickly propelled her to the top rung of Yiddish and Russian performers. One writer compared her phenomenally soulful singing to that of Robert Plant of Led Zeppelin.โ€

Treat yourself here to some of their spicy craft:
