Contemporary classical music organization Bang on a Can will present the cutting-edge LOUD Weekend festival, featuring film director and musician Jim Jarmusch and more, at Mass MoCA from July 28-30.

Jarmusch will appear as part of a semi-improvised guitar duo with Phil Kline on the opening night of July 28, which starts at 7:30pm. The two will accompany projected visuals featuring early footage from the Thomas Edison Company. On July 29 starting at noon, the festival will present Lโ€™Rain; the Bang on a Can All-Stars performing โ€œCan Danceโ€ (live music and dance on film); the University of Michigan Percussion Ensemble and So Percussion playing Michael Gordonโ€™s โ€œField of Visionโ€; Jeffrey Brooks playing Stein-o-caster; works by George Crumb, Igor Stravinsky; and more. On July 30 starting at noon, the bill includes Yuka Honda; performances of Steve Reichโ€™s โ€œDifferent Trainsโ€ and โ€œElectric Counterpointโ€; David Langโ€™s โ€œDeath Speaksโ€; Morton Feldmanโ€™s โ€œTriadic Memoriesโ€; Phong Tran; Infinity Shred; Olga Neuwirthโ€™s โ€œDie Stadt ohne Juden (The City without Jews)โ€ conducted by Brad Lubman and featuring Hans Karl Breslauerโ€™s 1924 Expressionist film of the same name; and more.
