For the final Young People’s Concerts concert of the season, Maverick’s music director, Alexander Platt, will narrate a special performance of composer Sergei Prokofiev’s beloved fable with music, “Peter and the Wolf.” Arranged for chamber ensemble and performed by the Amernet String Quartet & Friends, the piece famously uses personified instruments in the orchestra to tell the story of young Peter and his animal friends, the Duck, the Bird, and the Cat, as they tussle with a hungry wolf. The performance will be held on August 9 at 11am at Maverick’s picturesque music barn in Woodstock. Admission is free for all young people under 16. Adults pay $5 each and receive a coupon for $5 off the price of any regular-season concert. (845) 679-8217; Maverickconcerts.org.
